While cyber threats can seem omnipresent and overwhelming given the prevalence of cyber crimes, knowing and understanding cyber threats, sharpening our ability to recognize the red flags, and coming up with a plan to stay ahead of the cyber criminals is the key to good cyber security skills. For many, our default mode online is to trust the sites we visit, the emails we receive and the information we interact with as legitimate—which can lead us to easily fall victim to cyber crime.

This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to be able to spot cyber threats and avoid potential attacks. Each section will walk you through a variety of decision-based scenarios, short interactions, and activities to help you feel more confident when it comes to understanding cyber security essentials.

Her approach to training is inspired by her expertise and passions for the science of learning, psychology, and international affairs. For 18 years, Meredith has been an education and development professional. Highlights from her career include leading the development of security training programs at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund; serving as an advisor to the United Nations on security training initiatives; developing training programs for conflict-affected students in Nepal and serving as a United States Peace Corps volunteer in China. She has had the privilege of training thousands of people from every corner of the globe. Her love for creating innovative and valuable learning experiences alongside her dedication to promoting confidence, so people feel safe is reflected in both the mission of Greylake Training Solutions and Global Guardian Academy.

Mike McGarrity

Mike McGarrity is Vice President of Global Risk Services at Global Guardian, an international security and crisis response firm. In this role, Mike works with Fortune 500 clients and organizations to provide comprehensive tailored security and crisis response solutions. With 28 years of public service, the last 23 years with the FBI, Mike has led teams at all levels to protect the American people. Mike most recently served as the FBI’s Assistant Director of Counterterrorism, with daily oversight of all counterterrorism operations in the FBI’s 56 field offices and almost 80 overseas offices. In his role as the Director of the US Hostage Recovery Fusion Cell, Mike was responsible for the US interagency mission to safely recover Americans abducted abroad. Before joining the FBI, Mike was an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s Office in New York City and previously worked in the oil and gas industry. He obtained his law degree magna cum laude and undergraduate degree in economics from The Catholic University of America. He is a graduate of both Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive Program in National Security and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management Strategic Change Program.
