How much thought and planning do you put into safety planning before you travel? While we all hope to avoid undue risks and crisis when on the road, it is important to be prepared should an emergency occur. In new places, we do not have the familiar patterns we all rely on to help us navigate the world. By planning ahead and preparing, we can greatly reduce the likelihood and impact of a critical event such as a mugging, medical emergency, car accident or natural disaster.

This course will give you practical advice about the simple things you can do to increase your safety during travel. Each section will walk you through a variety of decision-based scenarios, short interactions, and activities to help you feel more confident about how to handle ‘sticky situations’ that could result in making a choice that puts ourselves or others at risk.

Meredith Moore

Meredith started Greylake Training Solutions to empower people to feel more confident in their safety and help organizations and businesses meet their commitment to keeping a global workforce prepared to operate in an insecure world. Her approach to training is inspired by her expertise and passions for the science of learning, psychology, and international affairs. For 18 years, Meredith has been an education and development professional. Highlights from her career include leading the development of security training programs at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund; serving as an advisor to the United Nations on security training initiatives; developing training programs for conflict-affected students in Nepal and serving as a United States Peace Corps volunteer in China. She has had the privilege of training thousands of people from every corner of the globe. Her love for creating innovative and valuable learning experiences alongside her dedication to promoting confidence, so people feel safe is reflected in both the mission of Greylake Training Solutions and Global Guardian Academy.

Mike McGarrity

Vice President of Global Risk Services, Global Guardian

Mike McGarrity is Vice President of Global Risk Services at Global Guardian, an international security and crisis response firm. In this role, Mike works with Fortune 500 clients and organizations to provide comprehensive tailored security and crisis response solutions. With 28 years of public service, the last 23 years with the FBI, Mike has led teams at all levels to protect the American people. Mike most recently served as the FBI’s Assistant Director of Counterterrorism, with daily oversight of all counterterrorism operations in the FBI’s 56 field offices and almost 80 overseas offices. In his role as the Director of the US Hostage Recovery Fusion Cell, Mike was responsible for the US interagency mission to safely recover Americans abducted abroad. Before joining the FBI, Mike was an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s Office in New York City and previously worked in the oil and gas industry. He obtained his law degree magna cum laude and undergraduate degree in economics from The Catholic University of America. He is a graduate of both Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive Program in National Security and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management Strategic Change Program.
